Like most horse lovers my affair with horses started in childhood at age 11.
I was blessed with the opportunity to “work” on the last remaining trail-riding business in the city of Milwaukee, Glass House Ranch. My “job” was caring for the horses, feeding…and when the owner Rollie was in a really good mood, riding! Those horses and that place salvaged me from a very difficult childhood.
I’ve carried that love and devotion to “all things horsey” ever since. Over the years, I tried my hand at breeding, boarding, showing, and training until I finally discovered within myself several years ago that my gift, passion, and fulfillment is in loving, caring, and nurturing these animals.
AGES was originally supposed to be built and operated in Waycross, GA. I found a large parcel of land, not too far from my mother who would share my dream with me by working in the bookkeeping end of the business. It was to culminate when my sons had graduated high school and could begin to be on their own. Our goal was to be breaking ground by the spring of 2007. My step-father was a general contractor, we were all very much looking forward to creating that rescue.
Mom became ill late in 2006 and died in May of 2007. My dream died with her, for a while. There was no longer a reason to move to Waycross, so after much thought and prayer I decided to create my dream here in Wisconsin, near the friends and family of my origin. Mom walks with me sometimes and encourages me from within. It is through my love for her and the dream we once had to make Amazing Grace a reality. I now share my dream with my beloved, John Groth, who just happens to know a lot of things about farming……and big animals.
